Understanding a week of earthquake activity
Many small earthquakes occur every day, particularly along tectonic plate boundaries. A cluster of dots does not by itself mean that a larger earthquake is imminent. Scientists cannot predict the precise time, place and magnitude of a future earthquake.
The default filter shows magnitude 2.5 and above to keep the weekly display readable. Select “All magnitudes” to include every event available in the public USGS weekly feed.
